Subject: Establishment of SWAYAM-NPTEL Local Chapter for Effective Implementation of MOOCs in B.Tech. Programmes
In order to strengthen the implementation of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and to enhance learning opportunities for students of Undergraduate Engineering (B.Tech.) programmes, all affiliated institutes of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University are directed to establish a SWAYAM-NPTEL Local Chapter in their respective campuses.
A senior faculty member must be nominated as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC), who will coordinate with the University as well as SWAYAM, and guide students regarding enrolment, assignments, examinations, and other academic activities related to MOOCs.
Institutes are required to encourage students to opt for SWAYAM-NPTEL courses under the category of Programme/Open Electives/Skill based courses (for exit enabling process or otherwise) in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th semesters as part of their regular curriculum.
Students who successfully complete MOOCs within the stipulated timelines may be considered for exemption from corresponding regular electives, subject to the approved University norms. Institutes must ensure that students enrol only in those MOOCs which are permitted for credit transfer by the University and that necessary monitoring, mentoring, and course completion support are provided at the institute level.
All affiliated colleges must initiate the process of creating or updating their Local Chapter details, publicize the benefits of MOOCs among students, and take full responsibility for timely result submission and credit transfer processes. Only those students who register through their institute’s Local Chapter will be eligible for the academic benefits associated with MOOCs.
This initiative aims to promote flexible learning, improve employability skills, and integrate national-level digital learning resources into the academic framework as per University guidelines.
Therefore, all institutes are instructed to take immediate action and report compliance to the University.
